Technical Stuff

For those who want to know I can explain a little better now about procedure. Here are some pics the surgeon drew for us... the first will be a normal heart ... the second is what he is doing .. the Fontan .. and he also wrote fenestration ... ok since Keifer doesn't have a usable or developed right ventricle they have to reroute the blood to get to lungs. On the second pic the large tube on left side marked SVC is the main vein to his head ... the lower tube marked IVC is from his lower body ... these two will connect up towards top of pic and to do that they need to put in a graph .. which is the last picture .. its a tube of synthetic material .. very soft and rubbery ... the blood from his lower body will go thru it and join the blood from the upper body ..... the fenestration is the hole he drew .. he has to puncture the hole to allow blood to flow out into the heart a little to help ease the pressure .... this will be a lot of blood flowing in that graph that his body is not used to so the hole lets a little go out ... and it will be closed up in a future heart cath within a year. Hopefully this will give you a better understanding......
